Committees

Article 12- The Right to be Heard

At Waunceirch, it is important to us that our pupils contribute their ideas and promote discussions with their peers regarding the development of our school.  We currently have several committees that are run by the pupils: School Council, Wellbeing Warriors, Criw Cymraeg and Eco Committee.

The aims of these committees are to allow children at the school to gain the experience of being part of a committee  and to give them a voice in the decision making for the whole school. These Committees are democratically elected by the children at the start of term in September.

The School Council

Wellbeing Warriors

The Wellbeing Warriors contribute to improving Health and Wellbeing across the school. During weekly meetings, the committee discuss a variety of topics such as healthy eating, keeping fit and plan activities for the school during raising awareness weeks e.g. anti bullying. The Wellbeing Warriors have also looked at school well-being data and suggest how we can help our pupils.

Criw Cymraeg

Criw Cymraeg encourage everyone in school to use Welsh every day by reading Welsh stories to our younger pupils, teaching our friends new playground games and completing more targets for our Bronze Cymraeg Campus Award. Hedgehog class have worked with Rhys Padarn, Orielodl, to produce a mural showing all the important things in our community. We think it looks amazing!

Eco Committee

The eco committee are working hard to ensure our school grounds including the forest area is kept litter free through weekly litter picks , assemblies and a poster competition . This year we will be developing our garden area and hope to start growing our own produce and plant flowers that will attract butterflies and bees . We Liase with the company that mange our land to ensure we keep areas of grass unmown to encourage the growth of wildflowers . We are also working with Dwr -y Felin to try and clear our old pond area and reinstate a new pond .

Attendance Committee

The attendance committee are working hard towards improving attendance and punctuality across the school. We meet at the beginning of each half term to discuss the barriers to attendance and how we can remove those barriers by using motivating incentives to encourage our pupils to come to school. We also discuss ways we can promote the importance of punctuality and making our children and parents aware of the detrimental impact being late can potentially have on their progress.

Digital Leaders

The Digital Leaders are our group of digital experts! Each class’s Digital Leader uses their skills and training to support others in class on how to use the tools such as accessing J2e, office 365 and using coding software. The Digital Leaders have also shared ideas with the school when staying safe online and trustworthy and untrustworthy sources. The committee have worked closely with Criw Cymraeg to promote the use of Welsh apps within the school.
